[2457.CN] January 2025 Chair Resolution

May I ask why debate time should be waived? Is there some imminent and urgent issue that requires Welly to be Chair?

As a point of order, there is no motion to waive debate time.

Wild. Could have sworn there was one :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh well!

Immenent sure; not necessarily urgent. In any case, the motion is moot.

I would prefer to at least wait for Welly to post their agenda before we vote on Hennā€™s resolution.

@Welly, are you still planning to post an agenda?

Noting that @Welly is yet to post their plans/agenda. Iā€™m wondering if other members would still be interested in serving as Chair.

On another note, I didnā€™t think I would say this, but if no members are interested in serving as Chair. I suppose I could continue for another term, until the Assembly is in a better position to appoint another member as Chair. I will stress that I would consider this as a last resort option.

Iā€™d much rather someone else take on this role.

Could we possibly have an acting Chair until @Welly posts their plans/agenda?

I may be able to hold the position temporarily, but I need to check with my schedule.

Since leaving office on 13th January, Iā€™ve been serving in a caretaker role as de facto Presiding Officer. Iā€™ll continue in this capacity until the office of the Chair is filled.

There will also be sandwiches. But no media.

I think @lordnwahs should be Chair since they are already doing the chair duties. Their current circumstances notwithstanding, ofc.

But a Bel chair should be fun.

I concur.

Thoughts? If @lordnwahs is interested that is.

I think some time has passed since Welly raised their intention to run for the office of Chair, but seeing as the Assembly has been in a limbo since, I will formally put my name forward for nomination to the office, and will accept if the Assembly so chooses.

As many of you might be aware, I resigned from the PM-ship less than 2 months into my term last September due to RL commitments, and these commitments have not changed and will have to take priority over NS sometimes. These commitments would mean that I would necessarily be taking this on in effectively a ā€œcaretakerā€ capacity. That is, if appointed, I will not seek to pursue any particular innovations or ambitious reforms from BlockBusterā€™s term, besides perhaps appointing a few more Deputy Chairs to assist with day-to-day work and to allow for different Legislators, new and old, to gain experience and perhaps take on the position of Chair one day themselves.

The position of Chair requires its holder to be a fair interpreter of procedure, and I believe that I have the necessary skills and experience to carry out that role, having being a Legislator for about a year and having been appointed Deputy Chair since a few months ago.

In terms of what I have done as Deputy Chair, I have been helping with maintaining Assembly records in general, and have on some occasions conducted the start and the tallying of votes, and assisted with the tallying of votes in other occasions. I have also helped with editing the Gazette and the Bi-Weekly Briefings on some occasions, and will continue to maintain these legislative outreach programs in the next Presidium if so appointed.

I am of course OWL Director at this present moment, which is not a cabinet appointment since the former PM did not specify me as a cabinet member in their appointment (see WA Act). As OWL Director, I have also done similar work in maintaining voting threads on the TSP Discord, although I will admit I have been much sloppier as of late (e.g. no new OWL Recommendation dispatches), but I think the more formal and spaced-out nature of Assembly work will allow me to keep things running smoothly.

I move the nomination of @lordnwahs to vote.

I second the motion

I, of course, fully support Nwahsā€™ nomination for Chair. As I imagine is already quite obvious to the Assembly, my earlier assessment of my RL capacity proved overly optimistic, to put it very mildly. With impeccable timing, things have just started to let up in the past few days, and I hope to have substantially more time to dedicate to NS projects in the coming months. Nevertheless, Nwahs (and BlockBuster) have done a truly commendable job in shouldering the load of Assembly business during my sudden disappearance, and he certainly deserves the Chair position more than I at this point.

In the meantime, I look forward to pursuing the set of legislative proposals that would have comprised the substance of my Chair platform. And Iā€™m happy to stay on as a Deputy Chair should Nwahs wish to keep me. I remain interested in the concept of a Chair being elected to pursue an affirmative legislative agenda, so hopefully the next time the Chairā€™s term is up, RL will be sufficiently tolerable that I will be able to run for real.

Finally, Iā€™m happy to put this to a vote, but perhaps BB would like the honors?
