I don’t think this is the sort of topic where discussion just “runs its course”. It should be an ongoing discussion.
Yes, agreed, but no one has posted here in 18 days, so clearly this topic has “run it’s course.”
If there is a desire for it to be ongoing, let it be ongoing. When I made that post, it was based on the fact that there simply wasn’t any activity for a prolonged amount of time.
Funnily enough, it was only after I believed this to be closed that it was suddenly important for it not to be.
You’re looking at this the wrong way. This isn’t a topic for a bill, where discussion comes to an end once the the bill goes to a vote. This is an open-ended discussion about activity in the Assembly so naturally legislators will resume discussion if and when it feels relevant; there is no reason why anyone should need to “give it an official end”.
If our fellow legislators do not think that the levels of activity in the Assembly is relevant, then I’m not sure what to tell you. If they believe it is relevant, I believe it might be more practical to make more specific topics so we can find a solution for those specific problems.
At any rate, at the very least we should consider starting to implement some of these ideas
To summarize what we came up with:
- Getting more people involved in the government
- People may be afraid to join the government due to inexperience
- Ministers should take the first step in approaching people to work with them
- We should prioritize having people work on specific projects rather than working in a Ministry
- We shouldn’t be excessively aggressive when asking our elected officials questions
- Bringing back Mentorships
- Potentially as a read-through guide
- People may be afraid to join the government due to inexperience
- People aren’t asking enough questions
- Take advantage of the State of the Assembly as a platform for questioning
- We should have more consistent questioning from the Assembly
- We should not be overly intense in our questioning
- Encourage people to ask their questions at scheduled, monthly interviews with the PM and Ministers
- Encourage people to ask their questions
- Designate times to ask questions
- Better communication from Cabinet
- Why they’re doing something, not just what they’re doing
- More cohesive agenda for the Cabinet as a whole
- Don’t wait for the Assembly to ask about something
- Have a group of people conduct and publish interviews with the Cabinet
- Miscellaneous
- Have exit interviews to find out why Legislators voted the way they did
