In accordance with Article 1, Section 2 of the Legislator Committee Act, the Cabinet hereby appoints @EmC (Qvait) to the Legislator Committee and presents it to the Assembly for approval.
Following the resignation of Moon, LegComm expressed a desire for a new member to help with their work and recommended Jay. Jay has the trustworthiness and security knowledge needed to serve on the Committee, having previously served as Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Regional Affairs, and OWL Director. They are also currently a CRS member and SPSF Soldier.
Do you believe your previous experience has helped prepare you to serve on LegComm? If so, how so?
You described yourself as “mentally … checked out already” during your recent term as Prime Minister with over a month left in office. Are you confident you will have the time and energy to keep up with LegComm duties now and in the future?
I’d also appreciate it if current and former members of LegComm could share their insights into how necessary or important prior experience is to the role.
I’d like to start by thanking the Cabinet for the nomination, and I am more than willing to ask questions from legislators. With that in mind, I’d like to respond to Pronoun’s questions.
Do you believe your previous experience has helped prepare you to serve on LegComm? If so, how so?
Yes, I believe that my previous experience did. I suppose a more recent event is when a participant of the Great Council tried to import a bunch of people to vote down a proposal. This occurrence sheds light on the importance that LegComm holds in ensuring that our Assembly only has legislators serving in good faith and weeding out malicious actors who seek to influence and undermine our region’s democratic processes.
However, I’d like to also credit some work that I do outside of NS, which is Wikipedia. If you know me, you know that I am an avid Wikipedia editor. I’ve been editing for nearly 13 years now, and the experience I have on that website quite actually ties into what LegComm is doing. On Wikipedia, anyone, literally anyone, and edit articles, which means determining if someone is editing in good faith or is only engaging in vandalism. I can’t say how many times I’ve reverted someone’s edit(s) on Wikipedia or warned/reported them for bad-faith edits.
If there’s something I’ve learned as a Wikipedia editor, it is to assume good faith, which is something that can also be applied in one’s work in LegComm.

I’ve been informed that the workload for LegComm is not as heavy as Prime Minister, so I have a reasonable belief that I’ll be able to work effectively as a LegComm member. Activity-wise, what I’ve been told about LegComm’s workload makes me expect it to be heavier than CRS work but lighter than Cabinet work. If I find myself in a situation where I am not effectively serving as a LegComm member or RL has become too busy for me to find time for NS, I’ll be there to let you all know about it. Right now, I do not believe that I’m in a situation where I cannot effectively serve in LegComm.
I think that competence with clerical tasks and prior knowledge of the broader NS security and foreign affairs environment are both important for LegComm members. I think it would be counterintuitive to require counter-intelligence or security check experience, especially since LegComm is the entity in TSP responsible for those tasks. Everyone has to pick up those specific skills at some point, and I think on the job training is sufficient.
